05 Nov Double award triumph for Talland Bay Hotel
The Talland Bay Hotel at Porthallow near Looe in Cornwall celebrated a double triumph at the Cornwall Tourism Awards held at Truro Cathedral on 1 November, taking both Gold ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ and Silver ‘Restaurant of the Year.
The team – represented in force by members from housekeeping, the kitchen and restaurant, reception and management along with owners Dr and Mrs O’Sullivan – was both “stunned” and “delighted” with the win.
“Having taken Bronze in the Small Hotel category last year this is no small achievement,” commented owner Dr Kevin O’Sullivan. “To come away with a Gold was more than any of us could have hoped for but so thoroughly deserved. Being topped off by Silver for the restaurant made it a spectacular night.
“I’d like to congratulate the whole team. I’m immensely proud and they should be too.”
General Manager Jack Ashby-Wright, marking his first awards in the GM role, said: “This is massive for the hotel. We’ve ranked at the awards for the last seven years and this is now the second time we’ve attained Gold. We consider ourselves a family and this is thanks to every individual member of the team who has worked so tirelessly and enthusiastically over the last year. We’re over the moon.
“I’d like to congratulate the other finalists and winners, it’s an honour to be amongst such fantastic tourism businesses,” he added.
Talland Bay Hotel took joint Gold with Boskerris Hotel in St Ives. Now in their 17th year, the Awards saw 80 awards presented across 26 different categories. It was the first time the Awards had been held in Truro Cathedral, with a record 398 guests attending.
